Energy Diaries #2

I am on an energy mission for 2022, and I shared in #1 some things that I am doing to be successful. 6 months later, I am happy to report that I have been consistent enough, and all that works beautifully. I am going to keep experimenting and personalizing my schedule as needed.

But even with all the best food, sleep, and workout habits, I realized that my energy has hit a plateau, and I figured out the primary reason was a lack of a life goal! So I made it a priority to find mine.

A life goal is not any small goal that makes you keep a little bit of your happiness on loan till you achieve it. It does not have a deadline and does not burn you out. Quite the opposite. It is a goal that practically feels completely unachievable and scary but at the same time fills you with joy and energy just thinking about it. Something that you can keep as the farthest goalpost in life. If the world has infinite parallel dimensions and you had the choice to exchange places with any version of yourself, that would be it. Something bigger than yourself that doesn’t just make the pain of dealing with daily life bearable but enjoyable and ecstatic, because every small step in the direction of that goal is real growth.

So I used my time and energy, suppressed my fear of failing, and dreamt up a life goal: I want to become a Neuroscientist. And then I got tattooed on my chest. My first tattoo. The circle represents all human knowledge and the triangle is what I want my knowledge to be. To learn what I need to so that I can make a permanent dent in the circle of human knowledge. I am able to expand it even if by a little. And thus play my part in the progress of humanity.

More on this later! Au revoir!
